Riding the Ocean Waves…
When I think about my journey with depression, I think of an ocean wave. Sometimes I feel like I am on top of the ocean wave, and other times I feel like the wave is on top of me.
Part of my journey with depression involved my thoughts—especially my thoughts about self-worth. There have been times in my life when I questioned my value, doubted myself and my abilities, and struggled with my sense of self-worth. I certainly had times when I struggled to see what others seemed to see in me. Those self-doubt thoughts weighed heavily on my mind and felt overwhelming. During those moments, I felt like the ocean wave was on top of me.
Sometimes it helps to have someone walk alongside us and talk through the thoughts we're carrying. It can help us see ourselves more clearly—or even begin to see ourselves the way others have seen us all along. If you have ever found yourself questioning your worth or your value, I would be honored to talk with you.
Depression can be serious. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harming yourself, please seek immediate help by contacting a mental health professional or calling 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you are struggling with depression, I strongly encourage you to seek support from a qualified mental health professional.
